December 28, 2009 - What happened to Great Earth Vitamins?

We at Great Earth Dallas are happy to share with you that after opening our Dallas location in 1978, we recently celebrated our 31st anniversary. Needless to say, it has been a very interesting journey with many ups and downs. With a heavy heart, we mourn the passing of Mel Rich, the founder of Great Earth Vitamins, who passed away in October 2008 after a four-year battle with cancer. As Mel was consumed with his battle with cancer, Great Earth began to experience many operational and financial difficulties. Without Mel's passion and desire to lead the way, Great Earth was forced to close its doors in March 2009.
As we have struggled with the loss of Mel and to continue with our business, we looked to our family, friends and other Great Earth store owners for guidance, wisdom and sometimes just to listen to our frustrations, which we sincerely appreciate. Through this, we were able to build strong bonds with other store owners and develop a plan that we are very excited to share with you.
A California store owner and Dietary Specialist, Bernard Kash, was able to secure the formulas for the Great Earth products. He began teaming up with highly respected professionals, doctors, scientists and nutraceutical formulators to manufacture and even improve upon the Great Earth formulas. The goal was simple: to continue to offer the highest quality vitamins and nutritional supplements in the industry. Only manufacturing facilities that are GMP compliant were chosen to manufacture the new products, which means that the facility must meet the highest standards set by the FDA and undergo more stringent and frequent inspections to ensure that the product it produces is safe and effective.
After almost a year in the works, it is our great pleasure to introduce to you the results of this quest: Viva Vitamins and Earth Wise brands.
